On October 8th the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center will host the 5th Annual Global Intellectual Property Center Summit. The Summit will bring together more than 300 industry and government representatives from the U.S. and abroad to discuss innovation and intellectual property as a vital engine of global development.

2nd Annual Global Forum on Innovation, Creativity, and Intellectual Property
Mumbai, India
February 26 - 27, 2008 

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. India Business Council, and the Confederation of Indian Industry hosted the 2nd Annual Global Forum on Innovation, Creativity, and Intellectual Property.

The Global Forum included a discussion of currents trends with regards to the relationship between innovation and intellectual property, including IP "best practices" as they relate to furthering innovation and patent enforcement.

  • Provided a forum for government leaders and business executives to exchange best practices and work together to develop solutions to the persistent IP challenges throughout the world.
  • Publicized new IP initiatives, including legislative reforms, inter-governmental cooperation in case handling, preventive measures, government-industry cooperation, and consumer awareness efforts.

The Forum included an announcement by David Chavern, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Ron Noble, Secretary General, Interpol, during a press conference on the progress of a Chamber/Interpol partnership to combat global IP theft.  The cornerstone of the project is the Database on International Intellectual Property (DIIP).  The DIIP is a cutting edge tool built to centralize global IP intelligence, track and analyze trends in counterfeiting and piracy, and more effectively execute law enforcement activities around the world.  At present, governments and industry from around the globe are providing real-time information on the criminals involved in IP theft to the DIIP.  Click HERE to review Interpol's Press Release regarding the Database on International Intellectual Property.

CACP International Task Force Meeting
United States Patent and Trademark Office IP Attachés Roundtable

The CACP's International Task Force and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center hosted the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Intellectual Property Attachés Roundtable.  The IP Attachés shared their experiences from a variety of different regions worldwide and provided information about best practices in obtaining, protecting, and enforcing IP rights outside of the United States.  The event provided a great opportunity to learn how to better protect your companies' brands around the world and discussed emerging issues and strategies in the global fight against counterfeiting and piracy. 

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center will continue to support efforts like the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's to promote and protect innovation worldwide.

Intellectual Property Crimes: The Danger, Crimes, and Victims
Miami, FL

Wednesday, November 28, the Global Intellectual Property Center hosted the Intellectual Property Rights:  The Danger, Crimes, and Victims in Miami, Florida.  This important conference was held at the U.S. Secret Service Office from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  The forum featured dialogue and discussion with top federal and state prosecutors, law enforcement agents and victims regarding intellectual property crimes, and state and federal enforcement actions. This training conference included tips on how to develop and refer cases to law enforcement, best practices, and case studies on recent Intellectual Property criminal prosecutions.

Counterfeiting and Piracy Awareness Week
Los Angeles, CA
August 20 - 23

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Los Angeles Counterfeiting and Piracy Awareness Week was held Monday, August 20 – Thursday, August 23. The week featured educational and media events throughout the Los Angeles area focusing on the costs and health and safety threats of counterfeiting and piracy.

Our goal is to help make Los Angeles a model city on the protection of intellectual property rights that can be emulated by other major cities around the country and the world.

The Cost of Counterfeiting and Piracy - Seattle, WA
August 10, 2007

On Friday, August 10, 2007 the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Association of Washington Business, and Attorney General Rob McKenna hosted the Cost of Counterfeiting and Piracy.

Counterfeiting and piracy cost the U.S. economy between $200 and $250 billion per year in lost sales, are responsible for the loss of 750,000 American jobs, and pose a real threat to health and safety.  The trade in these illicit goods is stealing Washington jobs, Washington tax dollars, and threatening the lives of Washington citizens.

Intellectual Property Crime Conference - Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
June 19 - 21, 2007

The Conference brought together over 350 law enforcement and customs personnel from to gain an international perspective on the trade in counterfeit products; to share international best practices on how to effectively combat this illegal trade; and to provide a global forum for networking and partnership development.

Global Forum on Intellectual Property Protection & Innovation
March 26-28, 2007

The "Global Forum on IP Protection and Innovation" attracted high-level participation from business communities, governments, and trade associations around the world, including leading voices on IP and innovation from the EU, Japan, Korea, Russia, Brazil, India, China, United States, and other countries.  The Forum brought together more than 500 participants from throughout the world to discuss current trends regarding the relationship between innovation and IP, exchange best practices in the area of corporate IP management, and explore solutions to persistent global IP protection and enforcement challenges.

Supply Chain Webinar
February 21, 2007

Originally held on February 21, the Chamber and the CACP hosted an educational Webinar on supply chain security, building on the No Trade in Fakes Supply Chain Tool Kit. This event featured presentations from Jack Holleran (Ernst & Young), Andy Cifranic (Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems) and David Faulconer (National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, ICE).
