on Groundbreaking Film:
Illicit: The Dark Trade
In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the U.S. Chamber is working with National Geographic on a groundbreaking film. Based on the best-selling book Illicit, by Moisés Naím, this National Geographic Special exposes the criminal networks behind the multibillion dollar global trade of illicit goods.
From medical devices and pharmaceuticals to toothpaste and DVDs the manufacture and sale of counterfeit and pirated products has a devastating impact on our economy, jobs, and consumer health and safety. Driven by organized criminal networks, this growing threat is assaulting the very core of the U.S. economy—innovation and creativity—and wreaking havoc on legitimate commerce at the expense of human safety and security.
According to Naím, "We won't get control of this problem until it becomes a dinnertime conversation." Caroline Joiner, executive director of the Chamber's Global Intellectual Property Center, adds, "This powerful and thought-provoking film will help fundamentally reframe the discussion on the issue of IP theft."
While the film does a tremendous job of exposing the severity of the problem, finding a solution is up to us.
So what can you do to get involved?
